Monthly Meetings

We have now recommenced our regular monthly meetings and talks and they are held on the first Wednesday evening of each month (except July & August), in the Charles Hunt Centre, Vicarage Field, Hailsham, BN27 1BG. Assuming there are no further restrictions imposed because of covid, our programme of talks for the remainder of 2021 is as follows: October 6th "Heritage Crime" by Daryl Holter of Sussex Heritage Community; November 3rd: AGM and members evening. 1st December: "Lewes & Bonfire Night" by Andy Thomas. All meetings commence at 7 for 7.30pm, members attend free and visitors are welcome at £2.50 on the door.

Our programme of talks for 2022 will be announced shortly.

As usual, we will still continue to respond to email queries and answer as many questions as possible, but may not always be able to respond immediately.

All meetings are open to the public and take place monthly on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm in the Charles Hunt Centre, Vicarage Field, Hailsham, BN27 1BG.

Visitors are always welcome - entrance fee £2.50. (Members free).

VE Day memories

On the 75th anniversary of VE Day, Richard Goldsmith of Hailsham Historical Society chatted with Simon Herbert of Hailsham FM about wartime Hailsham, with memories of the day from local people who were there, as well as press reports from the time.

If this interview has stirred any memories about VE Day in Hailsham, Hellingly or the local area we would love to hear from you. If you have any photographs of the day, we would love to see them and take copies for the museum. You can get in touch at info@hailshamhistoricalsociety.co.uk or telephone Richard on 01323 843102.
